  • Likely a capital or other element of a column, of cylindrical form, the stylized patterned headdress above a low-relief carved face with delicate features.

  • Losses along the diagonal grain through face and elsewhere, uncarved and unpolished along top edge where it may have fit into a pediment.

  • Initially in the possession of Akira Takahashi in Tokyo, sold to Isabella Rossi in Rome in 1971. Passed through Rossi's heirs until a 1995 auction.
