The box with softened corners, constructed in four tiers with a fitted lid. Entire surface patterned in continuous gold manji lattice over black lacquer ground. No visible joinery.

Minimal wear. Light abrasion to base corners. Upper tier slightly offset.

Acquired by Mr. and Mrs. Robert G. Ingersoll, Philadelphia, at an estate sale in Maine, 1980; by descent to their granddaughter, Ms. Anne Ingersoll.
