  • Depicting a pyramidal mound of toads and mountainous landscape beyond, especially deft handling of the figures, the lower most with a troupe l’oeil flourish, its leg apparently resting on the edge of the frame’s molded inner edge.

  • Some evidence of edge abrasion from the frame, surface with slightly yellowed varnish.

  • Owned by François Dubois in Paris until 1982, then acquired by Maria Fernandez in Madrid. Fernandez's collection, including this piece, was bequeathed to a Madrid museum in 2003.
